Natural language processing (NLP), explained
NLP covers tasks such as classifying text, extracting names and figures, detecting sentiment, translating and summarising. Before large language models, these tasks often needed separate specialised models. Today, LLMs handle many NLP tasks with a well-written prompt, though specialised models can still be cheaper and faster at very high volumes. Language support matters: test performance on Arabic, English and the dialects your customers actually use.
Example
An airline uses NLP to sort incoming emails into refund requests, baggage issues and booking changes.
