Data privacy (PDPL), explained
When using AI, privacy questions include: what personal data goes into a tool, where it is processed and stored, whether the provider uses it for training, who can access it, and how long it is kept. The UAE PDPL applies alongside sector rules, such as those for health data, and separate regimes in financial free zones such as DIFC and ADGM. Practical steps include using business-grade tools, minimising personal data in prompts and documenting approved uses. This is general information, not legal advice; confirm obligations with your legal adviser.
Example
A company configures its AI assistant so customer phone numbers are masked before conversations are sent for summarisation.
