What is Grounding?

Grounding means tying an AI model's answers to specific, trusted source information rather than letting it rely only on what it learned in training.

By DAIDU EditorialUpdated

Grounding, explained

A grounded assistant answers from documents, databases or live systems you provide, and ideally shows which source it used. Grounding is usually achieved with RAG or by passing data from business systems into the prompt. It makes answers more accurate, current and checkable. Instructions such as 'answer only from the sources provided; if the answer is not there, say so' strengthen grounding.

Example

A support assistant grounded in the returns policy answers 'Can I return sale items?' by quoting the relevant policy line.
